Board of Zoning Appeals meetings are held the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m.
The Coventry Township Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at 6:00 PM at Coventry Township Community Center, 335 E Willowview Drive, Akron, Ohio 44319, to consider the following requests:
2026-08: Sarah Hopper, 3318 Waterside Drive, Coventry Township, Ohio 44319
The applicant requests variances for the construction of a new residential deck; the requests are for two side yard variances and one rear yard variance. The north side yard variance is for 1.5 foot which is 8.5 feet or 85.0% less than the minimum requirement of 10 feet (Section (§) 7.03.C.). The south side yard variance is for 8.0 foot which is 2.0 feet or 20.0% less than the minimum requirement of 10 feet (§ 7.03.C). The rear yard variance is for 8.0 foot which is 32.0 feet or 80.0% less than the minimum requirement of 40 feet (§ 7.03.E). This property is located in a R-2 Residence district at 3318 Waterside Drive, Coventry Township, Ohio, 44319 Parcel Number 1901489, which is a lot of record. The BZA requested that the applicant submit clarifying and additional information at the May 12, 2026 hearing.

The applicant requests a variance for the installation of signage at the Burger King on Manchester Road; the request is for a building mounted sign area variance. The sign area variance is for 207.42 square feet which is 157.42 square feet or 317.6% more than the maximum requirement of 50 square feet (§ 19.02.L.). This property is located in a B-3 General/Regional Business district at 3196 Manchester Road, Coventry Township, Ohio, 44319 Parcel Number 1909785, which is a lot of record.
2026-14: Kyle Oberlin, 3498 South Arlington Road, Akron, Ohio, 44312
The applicant is requesting an approval of a conditionally permitted use. The proposal is for a restaurant, which is conditionally permitted (§ 11.01.B.1). The property, currently owned by KO Properties Investments, Inc., is located at 194 Killian Road Parcel Numbers 1906347 and 1906348, are lots of record in a B-2 Limited/Local Business District. The proposal will be reviewed for compliance with Sections 3.06 and 18.01.F.
2026-15: Dominic Fanizzi, 574 Saunders Avenue, Coventry Township, Ohio, 44319
The applicant requests a variance for the construction of a residential garage; the request is for a height variance. The variance is for 18 feet 4 inches which is 3 foot 4 inches or 22.2% more than the maximum requirement of 15 feet (§ 7.02). This property is located in a R-3 Residence district at 574 Saunders Avenue, Coventry Township, Ohio, 44319 Parcel Number 1900734, which is a lot of record.
