COVENTRY TOWNSHIP BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS - NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING


The Coventry Township Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at 6:00 PM at Coventry Township Community Center, 335 E Willowview Drive, Akron, Ohio 44319, to consider the following requests:


2026-16: Tiffany Leonard, 1365 Harmony Drive, Wadsworth, Ohio 44281

The applicant requests variances for the construction of a new residential home; the requests are for two side yard variances and one front yard variance. The north side yard variance is for 5.0 feet which is 10 feet or 66.7% less than the minimum requirement of 15 feet (Zoning Resolution Section (§) 6.03.C.). The south side yard variance is for 5.0 foot which is 10.0 feet or 66.7% less than the minimum requirement of 15 feet (§ 6.03.C). The front yard variance is for 35.0 feet which is 25.0 feet or 41.7% less than the minimum requirement of 60 feet (§ 6.03.A). This property is located in a R-1 Residence district at 3725 Rook Drive, Coventry Township, Ohio, 44319 Parcel Number 1905046, which is a lot of record.


2026-17: Tom Papp, 673 Isleview Drive, Coventry Township, Ohio 44319

The applicant requests a variance to allow Mr. Papp and his wife to live on the property in a trailer while their home is being reconstructed; the Papp’s home burned down on June 2, 2026. § 24.14.G. states that “Living in mobile homes, trailers, camping or travel trailers, truck campers or converted buses or any other mobile conveyance is prohibited.” This property is located in a R-1 Residence District at 673 Isleview Drive, Coventry Township, Ohio, 44319 Parcel Number 1905045, which is a lot of record.


2026-18: Jacob Moore, 1590 Lockwood Road, Coventry Township, Ohio, 44203

The applicant requests a variance for the construction of a residential garage; the request is for a height and an area variance. The height variance is for 22 feet 8 inches which is 7 foot 8 inches or 51.1% more than the maximum requirement of 15 feet (§ 7.02). The area variance is for 2,604 square feet which is 1,836 square feet or 239.0% over the maximum garage area of 768 square feet. This property is located in a R-1 Residence district at 1590 Lockwood Road, Coventry Township, Ohio, 44203, Parcel Number 1900884, which is a lot of record.


2026-11: Phillip LaRocca, DEEP Water Harbor LLC dba Harbor Lighthouse Grille, 562 Portage Lakes Drive, Coventry Township, Ohio, 44319

The applicant is requesting an addition to the conditionally permitted use approved by the BZA at the May 12, 2026 hearing.  The proposal is to permit live musical entertainment at the Harbor Lighthouse Grille, which is conditionally permitted (Section 23.20.G.).  The property, currently owned by Picks Harbor LLC, is located at 562 Portage Lakes Drive, Parcel Number 1910046, and is a lot of record in a B-2 Limited/Local Business District.  The proposal will be reviewed for compliance with Sections 3.06 and 23.20.
