The 22nd Annual Buckeye Martinfest will take place on Sunday, June 28, 1-4 pm., at North Reservoir Boat Launch at 803 State Mill Road. The public will be able to feed the Purple Martin birds, hold the babies, see the nests, and watch tagging get done for migration tracking. It is great family fun for all ages. Last year 250 members of the public attended the event!
Purple Martins eat their weight mosquitoes and bugs every day, making them very popular for pest control and it saves Summit County thousands of dollars in spraying. This keeps the air we breathe clean! They migrate here from Brazil every spring. Last year, 2025, our Portage Lakes Purple Martin Association fledged 1,200 baby Purple Martins. In 2014, Governor John Kasich officially named our organization as the Purple Martin Capital of Ohio. Come see hundreds of these amazing birds in person! Â
