Board of Zoning Appeals meetings are held the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m.


The Coventry Township Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at 6:00 PM at Coventry Township Community Center, 335 E Willowview Drive, Akron, Ohio 44319, to consider the following requests:

 

2026-07: Delano Capital LLC, Max Brainard, 670 Wooster Road N, Barberton, Ohio 44203

The applicant requests a variance for the construction of a new residential structure; the request is for a side yard variance.  The side yard variance is for 40.0 feet which is 20 feet or 33.3% less than the minimum requirement of 60 feet (§ 6.03.D.).  This property is located in a R-1 Residence district at 3272 Doubler Drive, Coventry Township, Ohio, 44319 Parcel Number 1910010, which is a lot of record.


 

2026-08: Sarah Hopper, 3318 Waterside Drive, Coventry Township, Ohio 44319

The applicant requests variances for the construction of a new residential deck; the requests are for two side yard variances and one rear yard variance.  The north side yard variance is for 1.0 foot which is 9 feet or 90.0% less than the minimum requirement of 10 feet (§ 7.03.C.).  The south side yard variance is for 8.0 foot which is 2.0 feet or 20.0% less than the minimum requirement of 10 feet (§ 7.03.C).  The rear yard variance is for 8.0 foot which is 32.0 feet or 80.0% less than the minimum requirement of 40 feet (§ 7.03.E).  This property is located in a R-2 Residence district at 3318 Waterside Drive, Coventry Township, Ohio, 44319 Parcel Number 1901489, which is a lot of record.


 

2026-09: Doug Drumm, 3685 Portage Point Boulevard, Coventry Township, Ohio 44319

The applicant requests variances for the construction of a new residential garage; the requests are for one height area variance and one height variance.  The height variance is for 16 foot 6½ inches which is 1 foot 6½ inches or 10.3% over than the maximum requirement of 15 feet (§ 8.02).  The area variance is for 1,120 square feet which is 352 square feet or 45.8% more than the maximum requirement of 768 square feet (§ 8.03.H).  This property is located in a R-3 Residence district at 3685 Portage Point Boulevard, Coventry Township, Ohio, 44319 Parcel Number 1904207, which is a lot of record.


 

2026-10: Kyle Halsey, Excelled Construction, 3104 Shade Road, Akron, Ohio, 44333.

The applicant requests a variance for the construction of a residential addition; the request is for a side yard variance.  The side yard variance is for 12 feet 4 inches which is 2 foot 8 inches or 17.8% less than the minimum requirement of 15 feet (§ 6.03.C.).  This property is located in a R-1 Residence district at 3499 Highspire Drive, Coventry Township, Ohio, 44319 Parcel Number 1906836, which is a lot of record.


 

2026-11: Phillip LaRocca, DEEP Water Harbor LLC dba Harbor Lighthouse Grille, 562 Portage Lakes Drive, Coventry Township, Ohio, 44319

The applicant is requesting an approval of a conditionally permitted use.  The proposal is for outdoor dining at an existing restaurant (Harbor Inn), which is conditionally permitted (Section 11.01.B.1.d.).  The property, currently owned by Tom Hutchison, is located at 562 Portage Lakes Drive, Parcel Number 1910046, and is a lot of record in a B-2 Limited/Local Business District.  The proposal will be reviewed for compliance with Sections 3.06, 18.01.F, and 23.20.


 

2026-12: Justin Fye, Avid Architects, 907 Fairlawn Corp. Parkway, Fairlawn, Ohio, 44333

The applicant is requesting an approval of a conditionally permitted use.  The proposal is for a church addition, which is conditionally permitted (Section 6.01.B.3).  The property, currently owned by Compass North Church, Inc., is located at 3000 Krebs Drive Parcel Number 2100024, is a lot of record in a R-1 Residence District.  The proposal will be reviewed for compliance with Sections 3.06 and 18.01.C.
